biography
BA (Hons) Fine Art Sculpture
Winchester School of Art
Dorcas explores themes of dreams and the unconscious. She works intuitively to transform familiar, domestic materials and unusual found objects into her sculptures, favouring craft-based techniques like hand stitching. She likes the idea of out-moded, discarded and marginal things returning as powerful presences, making sculptures which are poised awkwardly between the realms of the familiar and the uncanny.
Dorcas is a member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors, having been awarded a bursary from them in 2013. She won the Public Speaks Award in the Broomhill National Sculpture Prize and her work features in the book The Language of Mixed Media Sculpture published in 2014. Recently she exhibited her work at Banksy's Dismaland in Weston-Super-Mare and was selected for the 2016 Columbia Threadneedle prize exhibition in London.
